Next Step Knitting: “Basic Striped Beanie”

Description: Who doesn’t love a classic striped hat? Spun’s “Basic Striped Beanie” (one of our Spundamentals) is a perfect next step for new knitters, or anyone looking for a fun project! This class will teach you how to work in the round using both circular and double-pointed needles, change colors and weave in ends, perform simple decreases, and follow a basic written pattern.
Prerequisites: Participants should be familiar with the long-tail cast-on, knitting, and purling.
Homework: Pick your first color, and cast on 88 stitches using the long-tail method and your smaller needle. You will begin class with joining to work in the round.
Min/max number of participants: 5/8
Materials to bring along:
- Two skeins of worsted weight yarn (one of each color), purchased from Spun (we recommend )
- 16” size US6 and US8
- Size US8
- an extra pair of size US7 or US8 needles, straight or circular, for in-class practice
- A copy of the "Basic Striped Beanie" pattern (free with yarn purchase; if ordering online, just include a note in the comments field requesting it)
